Lantau
Home Up Kowloon The Peak Lantau Ladies Market

Day three started at the Hong Kong Art Museum.  Kate in particular loved this place, with it's exhibits of ancient and modern Chinese art.  There are many pieces in jade and gold, also pottery, bronze work and paintings.  The museum displays are not overcrowded, which lets you appreciate more what is on display.  It is a perfect example of a museum in which less is definitely more.

In the afternoon, we went out to Lantau, home of a monastery containing the world's largest, outdoor, seated, bronze Buddha.  This is surprisingly large and spectacular, situated as it is at the top of a tall flight of steps against the skyline in a saddle in the hills.

Lantau also is home to a small fishing village with houses still built on stilts over the water, and some almost deserted beaches.  All this only 20 miles from downtown Hong Kong.

We finally finished the day off down on the Kowloon waterfront at night.
